Modelling
So I thought I would try start a more lengthy project, and model an old town sort of looking scene, heres my first day of trying to model something, not that happy with it but as i said its going to be a longer project so there is still a fair way to go and hopefully will look better.

Spirited Away....
So i came downstairs the other morning turned on the tv and it just so happened that this film was on, and i managed to catch it right at the start. i have been told by so many people to watch it and it was just my luck that day that it was on.
Directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki, the film explores 10 year old chihiros adventure into a strange world ruled by gods, witches and monsters. Miyazaki's imagination is amazing and displayed in the most awesome way, and although you cant fully understand this strange world in which the story takes place you just can't help but get fully engrossed in it.
Throughout i grew to love the style of animation more and more, it reminded me of cartoons i used to watch when i was younger and it lets the wierdness of the film play out really nicely.
YOU MUST WATCH IT!
Helicopter
My little cousins were drawing helicopters so i decided to make them in 3ds max for them, not great but they liked it.

The Story revised...
OK so my story has changed or should I say developed since I first posted what it was going to be.
Now the camera starts off looking at sign saying 'CCTV camera in operation' it will then pan down to what is my characters head on the floor, suddenly there will be a flicker of light on his camera head and he will come to life, lifting himself up out of the ground. once standing up, his lens zooms in down the street where he can see rubbish being thrown from round the corner, he looks alarmed and decides to cautiously make his way down to the other end to see what is going o, as he gets there a small cute looking animal appears and he looks lovingly at it only for it to then bare its gigantic fangs, shocked he jumps back slips on the banana in the street and into the bike and down the pot hole...BOOM. the end.
the influence for change in ending comes from an animation posted in 3d world called 'the chubbchubbs' done by Sony

Cammy in my scene
Had a trial run today with cammy in the scene need to bit of work with the scene still but happy that the contrast between him and the ink n paint work better.

Ink 'n paint
I put my character Cammy into my scene today but found he didn't really fully match it, he looks more cartoony where as my scene has a very real dark feel to it, so I decided to add in a bit of ink and paint and make a collaboration between the two hopefully making it a more comfortable environment for my character and the simple story.
Here are some edited images i quickly put together....

No 3ds...might as well draw a Lamborghini
Yesterday my 3ds max decided to go and break down, its still in break down mode and I urgently need to fix it in order to carry on with the project, I could go into uni but I'm lazy and like the comfort of my home and endless cups of tea. This gave me a chance to do a bit of digital art, I'm also going to spend today drawing storyboard animatic and collecting Foley and music for my final animation. Here's a Lamborghini I made anyway......

Development of scene for Animation.....
Just thought I would develop my scene for my animation, the scene if you can't remember is a dingy alleyway, there's quite a few more things i want to add to it but I'm reasonably pleased with how its coming along.

Leg Rig...
Had our seminar today on rigging the leg of our robots, it seemed to be bit more complicated than the arm but i think with a bit of time and concentration i will be able to get it done.
keep posted for the eventual outcomes.

Cammy full model.....
Here is the almost fully modelled character for my animation....'Cammy' named as his head resembles that of a CCTV camera. It's not fully rigged as I haven't fully decided if i want to add a bit more or just keep the simplistic way it is. I'm thinking the simpler the model, the simpler the rigging and therefore hopefully the simpler it will be to animate, which is probably a good idea as I haven't done any animation within 3ds max as of yet.

Cammy....
started modelling my character 'Cammy' and just decided to put him on the bmx i modeled for the render.

My Robot Arm
Here is a short preview my robot arm after being rigged and animated.
Pretty happy it's all working and all the finger hooks are sorted just need to rig the rest of the body and get practising with animating the whole piece.
Robot Arm Tutorial..
I managed to complete making the tutorial robot arm from Andy's lesson, I played around with it for a bit and managed to make it catch a ball, here's a screen shot from my completed work.

First draft storyboard......
This was the first draft storyboard for my 'Of bots and bananas', after the first presentation we discussed that there wasn't enough camera angles and that the size of the storyboard wasn't right for the final exported movie size.
I'm going to start creating a new storyboard with camera direction and comments underneath for weather it is a long shot, close up, pan or crane shot.
Robot Arm
Just completed making the robot arm tutorial from Andy's lesson, took a fair bit of time but i can now see how the heir-achy and link up between the various parts link up. I'm going to try and start putting this together for my robot maybe looking at creating a working leg.
Final Chosen Character
I found an image of this guy online and decided to sketch it and change it a bit to make it mine. i'm going to try develop it to make it look a bit more robotic, but otherwise this is the basic idea for my character.
Sketches work so far
When sketching i was initially looking at a character robot that would look a bit like one of the gorillaz characters, as i started to develop some of the drawings though i started to realise that this might be pretty hard to model seeing as i haven't even done any character modelling before.
so i started to look at another idea for my robot drawing inspiration from the film 'predator' and the game 'halo'.
while showing my designs to Roma she said that from looking at the two different ideas they could be quite easily combined as some parts of the drawings crossed over.
i have now started to develop my humanoid/robotic character but these here are my initial drawings.

Project UNE: The Brief
The task in hand is to Design and animate a model of a complex bipedal (two legged) robot that can walk trip slip and fall.
We are to use all our creative skills and media savyness to produce at least UNE minute of animation to demonstrate a walking robot that can slip on a banana peel or related gag. When doing designing and animating we are asked to think about articulation, timing camera shots compositing Foley (sound effects), texture and lighting.
My Initial idea was to make something that would be a bit ironic first idea that came to me would be to have a gangster type of robot looking hard that would come along step over the banana, then jump over a pot hole then get scared by something jump backwards, slip on the banana and then fall down the hole. I started a few sketches taking influence from the drumming character for the gorillaz (Russel Hobbs).
I thought after a while that at this stage creating a robot that looks quite lifelike would be quite a complex task and so i should look at something a bit more simple, i'm still working on some initial drawing and developing.

UnderWater Lair
UnderWater Lair By Joshua Crooks from Josh Crooks on Vimeo.
This is my 3d underwater Lair done as part of my Multimedia Design course at Nottingham Trent University.
I'm pretty pleased with how it has gone although i feel i could have achieved more, especially in the render outcome. In one sequence the cieling appears to have disappeared, i hope to get this sorted and post up again.
Thank you for watching

Flashhhh Done...Well Almost...and the rest....
So I've just been spending the morning on flash, i have basically completed it, i just have to convert my video to the right format so that it plays. It doesnt look nice or work incredibly smooth but it will do and seeing as im not choosing interactive media next year i'm not too fused.
All i have to do now is finish off last bit of rendering for my secret lair and then put it together in premier.
Arrange my visual essay in premier, record my voice and dropbox that.
Put together Presentation for Wednesday 26th at 12.20 and......I'm done.
Seems like a lot when i write it out but i know i'll be able to do it all.

Visual Essayyyy
Finally got this visual essay going, done quite a bit of research and am starting to put it together now. I've decided to put my images and pieces of video into premier and have a bit of narration over the top.
For my three Practitioners i have chosen
1- Victor Navone- an animator at Pixar. Has a really interesting background and his work i am very fond of and would like to maybe one day achieve the level of quality he has.
2- Tangram 3DS- an international 3D & Design Solutions Company- amazing design and concepts visualised for a variety of different clients, after researching them i decided they would be my dream job to work for. Love the bold fresh work they have.
3- Nathan Love Studios (Ryan Moran)- Animation studios, specifically one of their chief animators Ryan Moran who's work is so different but has a very quirky and individual character to them all. I like the fact the studio isn't afraid to touch a piece of work and that it is a small studio that is very popular.
So there they are, i am pretty sure i will be able to talk about their influences upon me and how my work reflects them and why i want to chose Virtual Environments as my Pathway choice.
